In a global context in which sustainability becomes not only a choice, but a necessity for the survival and growth of companies, Simtel, represented by Ana Nedea, Director of Strategy and Business Development, participated in the Round Table „Sustainability. From manufacturer to consumer”. The event, organized by Capital and InfoFinanciar, it brought together leaders from diverse industries to debate the most pressing environmental issues and innovative solutions that can turn sustainability into a growth engine for business.

The discussions highlighted a clear message for companies: sustainability can no longer be seen as a short-term cost, but as a major opportunity to gain a competitive advantage. Integrating sustainability into the business model, from production to logistics, can bring not only reduced environmental impact, but also open up new markets and funding opportunities.

ESG – The future does not wait: What companies need to know

As of 2024, large companies with more than 500 employees will be required to produce and publish ESG reports (Environmental, Social, Government), according to the Directive on sustainability reporting of companies (CSRD COM/2021/189). These reports assess the impact of business on the environment, community and internal governance, giving businesses the opportunity to demonstrate transparency and accountability.

These regulations do not only affect large companies. From 2026, listed SMEs and other businesses will also have to comply with these standards, with reports due in 2027, thus giving smaller companies time to prepare, but also a clear signal that ESG responsibility is becoming a global norm.

The timetable for the implementation of the new regulations is as follows:

– January 1, 2024: Large companies, already covered by the Non-financial reporting directive (NFRD), will be required to report to ESG.

– 1 ianuarie 2025: Obligația se extinde și asupra companiilor mari care nu sunt acoperite de NFRD.

– 1 January 2026: reporting becomes mandatory for listed SMEs and other enterprises, with the option of deferral until 2028.

Ana Nedea pointed out that for Simtel, ESG is not only an obligation, but a vital part of the growth strategy. „ESG is no longer just a necessary compliance report – is the new currency in which companies are valued by investors, partners and consumers. Whoever does not integrate ESG into the company’s DNA will stay behind,” she said.
