Bucharest, September 17, 2024 – Simtel, engineering and technology group, national leader in the field of renewable energy, together with PRIME Batteries Technology, one of the most important producers of energy storage solutions in the European Union and the only battery producer in Romania, announces the signing of a partnership for the development of advanced technologies in the field of renewable energy. The partnership aims to increase energy efficiency, reduce costs and accelerate the implementation of sustainable projects, both in Romania and in Europe. The first innovative project carried out jointly and from own sources by the two Romanian companies is an energy storage system powered by energy from photovoltaic panels at the Prodromu Romanian Hermitage, located on Mount Athos, Greece.
“Within Simtel, being recognized as the market leader in the field of renewable energy in Romania, we constantly focus on innovation and sustainability in all our projects. The partnership with PRIME allows us to develop innovative and sustainable solutions that meet today’s energy efficiency and carbon reduction needs. By integrating the most advanced technologies in the field of renewable energy, we help to optimize costs for our customers, as well as increase energy independence in isolated or logistically difficult locations. We are dedicated to providing reliable, scalable and environmentally friendly solutions that support both companies and organizations as well as local communities in their transition to green energy sources .” said Mihai Tudor, CEO of Simtel.
Mount Athos is a reference spiritual center for world Orthodoxy, hosting more than 20 Orthodox monasteries with a history of hundreds of years. Located on an isolated peninsula in northern Greece, this place is recognized for its historical, religious and cultural importance, attracting over the centuries believers from all over the world. Over the centuries, Romanian rulers and Romanians have played an essential role in supporting the monastic communities on Mount Athos, their substantial donations contributing to the preservation of Orthodox traditions and the maintenance of monasteries and hermitages throughout the peninsula.
“This innovative project marks a landmark moment in our joint efforts to support the transition to clean and sustainable energy in Europe. Through this collaboration, we have been able to implement a state-of-the-art energy storage solution that improves energy efficiency and also contributes significantly to reducing carbon emissions. This achievement underlines our ability to provide robust and efficient solutions for solar energy storage, a key component to achieving the European Union’s climate goals. “, said Vicentiu Ciobanu, CEO of PRIME.
The project from the Romanian hermitage, Prodromu, marks the first phase of a larger initiative. At this stage, Simtel integrated the batteries produced by PRIME in a system that includes the production of renewable energy from photovoltaic panels with a power of 100 kWp and batteries with a total capacity of 512.4 kWh (0.5 MWh). The system uses autonomous (off-grid) Victron inverters, supplied by the Romanian company Darcom Energy.
Designed to allow the expansion of battery storage capacity in future stages, this energy microsystem will be expanded in the second phase by the additional installation of 120 kWp of photovoltaic panels, an operation that will be carried out by Simtel in October of this year. The system integrates three already existing diesel generators, which can operate alternately or simultaneously, thus providing flexibility and ensuring continuity of power supply when needed.
The renewable energy system developed and implemented by Simtel and PRIME contributes significantly to the energy independence of the monastic community at Prodromu, by almost completely eliminating the need to use diesel generators. Also, once the second stage is completed, the energy system will have a total capacity of 220 kWp in photovoltaic panels and will produce approximately 308 MWh of solar energy annually, generating savings of approximately 60,000 euros per year and reducing carbon dioxide emissions with approximately 206 tons per year.
