Simtel (BVB: SMTL), an engineering and technology group listed on the Main Market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange and one of the leading players in Romania’s renewable energy sector, announces the opening of a new subsidiary, Simtel Italia S.R.L., in Milan, Italy. The new entity represents another step in the Group’s international expansion strategy and extends Simtel’s presence into one of Europe’s most dynamic renewable energy markets.

The decision to enter the Italian market is based on the accelerated development of the renewable energy sector and the significant opportunities created by public policies supporting investments in this sector. In 2025 alone, more than 6 GW of new photovoltaic capacity was commissioned in Italy, bringing the country’s total installed photovoltaic capacity to 45 GW, while the Italian government continues to stimulate investments through dedicated support mechanisms, including Contracts for Difference (CfD) schemes and GSE tenders implementing the tariffs established under the FER-X Decree, providing investors with long-term predictability and stability.

The Italian government’s stated medium-term objective is to reach 80 GW of installed photovoltaic capacity by the end of 2030. The growth of the renewable energy sector, particularly photovoltaic energy and BESS energy storage systems, is guaranteed and strongly supported by the Italian government through the construction and modernization of the 380 kV electricity transmission grid by the transmission system operator TERNA S.p.A. (a EUR 23 billion investment by 2030). Through its new subsidiary, Simtel aims to address the growing demand for specialized services dedicated to investments in photovoltaic power plants and energy storage systems.

The opening of our subsidiary in Italy represents another step in our international expansion strategy and reflects our trust in the potential of this market. The experience we have built in Romania provides us with all the prerequisites to become a trusted partner for investors active in this market. We aim to transfer the expertise we have gained from implementing complex renewable energy projects and to build a strong local team capable of delivering the same standards of quality, efficiency and professionalism that define Simtel. At the same time, our expansion into Italy strengthens the Group’s European footprint and creates new opportunities to collaborate with international clients developing projects across several of the markets where we are already present ,” stated Mihai Tudor, CEO of Simtel Group.

Simtel Italia is headquartered in Milan, one of Europe’s leading economic and financial centers, a location that provides direct access to the main investors and project developers in the energy sector. The subsidiary will be led by Guglielmo Martino, an Italian executive with extensive experience in the energy industry, who, throughout his career, has held General Manager positions across several divisions of Enel Romania and has also gained significant experience within EDP Engineering in Latin America.

“The Italian renewable energy market is currently experiencing remarkable momentum, and the dynamism and ambition with which Simtel is entering this sector represent exactly the catalyst needed to accelerate the energy transition. I am very familiar with the professionalism and execution capabilities of the Romanian team, and my objective is to combine this strong technical expertise with a deep understanding of the local market. Simtel Italia will not only be an EPC and O&M services provider, but also a long-term strategic partner for utilities, project developers and industrial clients, delivering turnkey photovoltaic and energy storage projects, from design and permitting through construction, operation and maintenance ,” stated Guglielmo Martino, CEO of Simtel Italia.

In its initial phase, Simtel Italia will provide EPC services for photovoltaic projects and BESS energy storage systems, as well as Operation and Maintenance (O&M) services. The company will target renewable energy investors, including Independent Power Producers (IPPs), utility companies and industrial clients developing their own power generation and energy storage projects.

Operations in Italy will be developed through an integrated model, under which the local team will work closely with Simtel’s specialists in Romania. This approach enables the transfer of the technical expertise gained through the Group’s projects, while maintaining close proximity to local clients and the ability to respond quickly to the specific requirements of the Italian market.

By the end of this year, Simtel Italia estimates that it will secure projects with a total capacity of more than 200 MWp, to be implemented during 2026-2027. Some of these projects have already been signed, while others are in the final stages of negotiating their contractual terms. Simtel believes that one of its main competitive advantages in the Italian market is the experience gained from delivering complex projects within accelerated timelines, together with the high standards of quality and operational efficiency developed in Romania, enabling the company to offer solutions that are competitive from both a technical and an economic perspective.

The opening of the subsidiary in Italy represents the Group’s fourth international expansion, following the launch of operations in the Republic of Moldova in 2022 and in Germany and Sweden in 2025. The three subsidiaries will collaborate under a common operating model, leveraging the Group’s technical expertise and the relationships developed with international clients operating simultaneously in Romania, Germany, Sweden and Italy. This approach enables the Group to serve multinational companies more efficiently and strengthen its position as a European partner for renewable energy projects and integrated energy efficiency solutions.
